Has your pet dewormed? This term always herds from your veterinarian, right? And your answer was yes or no but you always think about what is deworming for dogs and why it is so necessary for their entire well-being.

What is Deworming?

There are many worms are there to readily infect to dogs and many other animals. To kill and control, veterinarian always prefer deworming plan for your pets to combat this harmful worm. There are mainly three types of worm:

  1. Nematodes (Roundworm)
  2. Trematodes (Flatworm)
  3. Cestodes (Tapeworm)

Why deworming is necessary or dogs?

As describe above, there are mainly three type of worm that frequently and badly infect to your pets. These worms can damage this organ mostly:

  1. Nematodes (Intestine, lungs, lymphatic vessels)
  2. Trematodes (Mainly liver and bile duct)
  3. Cestodes (Intestine, muscle and many other tissues)

If you regularly dewormed your dog under veterinarian supervision, you could protect too many body systems from this harmful worm.

How are worms infecting to my dogs?

Worms are not made in body when they are pups or little one. But they got entry in body in various ways.

  • Fecal route: When your dogs eat or lick someone else’s animals’ fecal material or food infect with fecal material. This is the common and frequent route of worm’s entry.
  • Raw meat: If your dog eats raw infected meat then it may chance to get entry of this worms in your dogs. So always cook meat before feed to your dog.
  • Wound: Some worms get entry through blood when it injured.
  • Mother’s milk or during pregnancy: Some worms are getting entry from placenta when there are in womb or through milk after parturition.

It is crucial to consult your veterinarian first to schedule your pup for deworming. As general schedule for deworming schedule for your dog:

  • First deworming at 15 days of age and regularly at 15 days interval until it reaches 3 months of age.
  • Then regularly deworm at 1 month interval in between 3-6month of age.
  • When your dog attains 6 months of age, you can deworm your dog every 3 month of age.

Deworming For pregnant bitch, done at the time of parturition and after 15 days. Then regularly deworm at 15 days interval until weaning.
